The New Zealand Marist Rugby Colts kicks off a nine-day rugby tour of the upper North island tomorrow, with the team assembling in Auckland yesterday, and playing the first game of their four-match tour against a Northland Invitation XV on Saturday, July 30th.


The 27 man squad of is made up from nominated key club talent from Marist clubs across New Zealand, and includes two player representatives from West Coast affiliated Marist clubs, number 8 Jack Devlin from Greymouth Marist R.F.C and Jacques Provis, a hooker/prop from Hokitika's Wests R.F.C, as well as Greymouth Marist coach, Dave McTaggart.  


The New Zealand Marist Colts manager, Robert McCoid, says the coaching staff of ex All Black Dion Waller and Greymouth Marist's Dave McTaggart, have a short period of time to get these young men gelled together against some high-quality teams. "The entire Colts team is looking forward to playing great competitive rugby as well as celebrating the Marist culture in the regions we visit, the team will be visiting several schools as we travel around the country throughout the week, and we are looking forward getting things underway this Saturday in Whangarei".


Wests R.F.C coach Mike Foster, said the club was very proud of Jacques' inclusion in this year's New Zealand Marist Colts, and says he'll prosper from the opportunity. "Jacques has shown a lot of promise this year, and this tour will be a wonderful experience for him, and we know he'll come back an even better player than he is now."


Greymouth Marist club president Mark Costello said he was thrilled with Jack's selection, and knows he'll excel on this tour, "Jack had and outstanding season for us this year, improving every game and this will be a wonderful opportunity for him, and we are delighted with his inclusion in the side". Costello said the inclusion of Dave McTaggart as a coach is also great news, and that it is a reward for the efforts he's put in over the past few seasons. "Dave has done some great things for our young team over the past few seasons, and we know he'll thrive in this environment and offer plenty to the coaching unit", Costello said.

Counties-Manukau Under 19's - August 2nd, Papakura

Marist North Harbour - August 4th, Takapuna

Auckland Under 19's - August 5th, Otara

1st Game on our 2022 colts tour. The boys pulled a last minute try to win 31 - 29. Sunday has been a recovery day with our school visit 1st thing tomorrow morning. 

Marist Colts player counties under 19s last night at Massey park it was a hard fought game with counties leading the colts at half time 14 - 12  however the colts came back and won 17 - 29 well done boys a good result against a hard counties side.
